C. 20045 Dear Mr. Maynard: This will confirm our telephone conversation this morning, in which we discussed your desire to procure a proposal for two (2) high pressure presses in the range of 1,500 tons. As I told you on the telephone, we have been working with Dr. H. Tracy Hall for several years in the manufacture of high pressure presses used for research and for production of diamonds. You are, of course, aware of his background, and for that reason I see no good purpose to be served by restating that history. McCartney Manufacturing Company has been involved in high pressure technology for many years and our facilities here are almost totally dedicated to that technology. The major thrust of our business is in the containment of pressures used in the production of low density polyethylene and the balance of our high pressure technology is directed toward research, equipment for diamond synthesis, and a relatively recent innovation of ours utilizing high energy fluids for cutting. It was my understanding from our conversation that you will be forming a corporation capitalized in the area of $5 million. This corporate entity will be involved in the purchase of the aforementioned presses, and it would be your intention to place firm orders for this equipment in April of 1979. Until I know the total scope of this project, we would not, of course, be in a position to give you a firm proposal, but I will be in touch with Dr. Hall and expedite a proposal to you. On specialty items such as this and on projects of this magnitude, it is obvious they are not "shelf" items, and therefore special financial arrangements will of necessity be made. 62 ' All agreements contingent upon strikes, accidents and other conditions beyond our control. All contracts are subject to approval by an officer of the company. Quotations subject to change without notice. Baxter Springs, Kansas 66713 PHONE 3I6-S56-2ISI February 27, 1979 Details of that will be outlined in our proposal to you. We were pleased to get your call this morning, and trust we may have the opportunity to work on this project for you. Very truly yours, MC CARTNEY MANUFACTURING CO., INC. 0. M.
